Trauma Therapy That Helps You Move Forward—Not Stay Stuck in the Past

If you feel triggered, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that don’t make sense logically, EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) can help your brain fully process what it hasn’t been able to let go of.

At Perry Counseling, EMDR is used to help you move beyond insight and create real, lasting change.

What Is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help the brain process and heal from distressing experiences.

When something overwhelming happens—whether it’s a major trauma or repeated stress—your brain may store it in a “stuck” way. This can lead to:

  • Anxiety that feels out of proportion

  • Emotional triggers that don’t make sense

  • Negative beliefs like “I’m not good enough” or “I’m not safe”

  • Feeling reactive, shut down, or overwhelmed

EMDR helps your brain reprocess these experiences so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity.

How EMDR Works

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements or tapping) while you briefly focus on a distressing memory or feeling.

This allows your brain to:

  • Reprocess the experience

  • Reduce emotional intensity

  • Update negative beliefs

  • Integrate the memory in a healthier way

You don’t have to relive everything in detail or talk endlessly about the past—EMDR works by helping your brain do what it was naturally designed to do: heal.
